The large research infrastructure Center of Accelerators and Nuclear Analytical Methods (CANAM) is a center for the investigation of tasks in a wide range of scientific disciplines using beams of accelerated ions and neutrons. The implemented analytical, characterization, modification and production methods are unique within the Czech Republic and provide opportunities and information that cannot be obtained in other ways and that are indispensable for basic and applied studies in various research fields (such as in physics, materials science, chemistry, biology, biomedicine, energetics, engineering, electronics, environmental science, archaeology, cultural heritage, etc.).

CANAM was incorporated in the „Roadmap of Large Infrastructures for Research, Experimental Development and Innovation of the Czech Republic“ in the period 2010 – 2019 and supported with a targeted funding from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (projects No. LM2011019 and No. LM2015056) and institutional funding from Nuclear Physics Institute of the CAS. Experimental facilities of the CANAM infrastructure are proffered to the users in Open Access mode. The proposals should be submitted via User Portal.

The use of the NPI infrastructure CANAM and of the funding project must be properly mentioned in publications (for example: Measurements were carried out at the CANAM infrastructure of the NPI CAS Rez). For Neutron Physics Laboratory experiments, moreover, we request another acknowledgement of research reactor use in the form: "Presented results were obtained with the use of infrastructure Reactors LVR-15 and LR-0, which is financially supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports - project LM2018120".

CANAM is operated with public support from several sources:

  • Operational cost was supported by Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) project : Centrum urychlovačů a jaderných analytických metod (CANAM) – LM 2015056 in combination with institutional support of NPI in 2010 – 2019. Since 2020, CANAM has been operating mainly within the institutional budget of the NPI host institution.
  • A project for upgrade investment and own research submitted under the call No. 02_16_013 for Research infrastructures, priority axis 1 Operational programme research, development and education, MEYS, project name Center of Accelerators and Nuclear Analytical Methods - OP, Reg. No. OPCZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_013/0001812 was supported by the European Structural and Investment Funds.
  • Open/transnational access was supported by the European Commission e.g. FP7 projects NMI3, NMI3-II or the running EURATOM FP7 project CHANDA. Outreach towards industrial partners is a topic of HORIZON2020 project SINE2020 in which CANAM participates. New projects are planned with the consortium of compatible research infrastructures.

CANAM offers to scientists and industry a unique experimental infrastructure in nuclear physics and neutron science.
