Department of Radiation Dosimetry

The research activities of the department lie at the border of basic and applied research in the domains of dosimetry and microdosimetry of ionizing radiation and their applications in radiation protection, radiotherapy and radioecology. Research studies are often interdisciplinary and include physics, chemistry and biology; for more details please see Research. Unique equipment available in the department is summarized in Equipment.

The founder and the first director of our institute was well known Czech physicist Frantisek Behounek. Established in 1953 as an independent institute, in 1994 the Department of Radiation Dosimetry became a part of the Nuclear Physics Institute CAS. In the same year Frantisek Spurny was appointed as the new director and held the role until his death in 2010. Since 2011 the department has been headed by Marie Davidkova.

Some of us are lecturers at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, CTU in Prague. We are also engaged in supervising of bachelor, master, and doctoral research projects; for more information please visit For students.
