The Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences 2025 at the Nuclear Physics Institute
10. 11. 2025

A total of three departments of the Nuclear Physics Institute (NPI) of the CAS took part in the Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences, held from 3rd to 9th November 2025. During two guided tours, visitors could explore a functional civil defense shelter located in the underground facilities of the NPI Department of Radiation Dosimetry at the Bulovka Hospital complex in Prague. On Friday and Saturday, they also had the opportunity to visit two important nuclear facilities in Řež.
In Řež, visitors were able to see two key nuclear facilities of the Institute: the Tandetron accelerator and the MILEA accelerator mass spectrometer. The Tandetron is used for example in the study of new materials, while the MILEA spectrometer enables precise radiocarbon dating of archaeological findings. The open days in Řež were organized in cooperation with ÚJV Řež, a.s., the Research Centre Řež and the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences. As in previous years, Friday’s program was dedicated to school groups, while Saturday was open to the public.
