RNDr. Aleš Cieplý, CSc., awarded the prestigious DSc. title
29. 08. 2025

On 24 September 2025, RNDr. Aleš Cieplý, CSc., from the Department of Theoretical Physics of the NPI CAS, received from the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Radomír Pánek, the diploma entitling him to use the prestigious Doctor of Sciences (DSc.) title. Congratulations!
The DSc. degree (with the English equivalent Research Professor) is one of the highest academic titles in the Czech Republic. It has been awarded since 2003 by decision of the Academic Council of the CAS, following a demanding evaluation process. To date, a total of 237 titles have been granted, with thirteen researchers receiving it this year.
At the opening of the ceremony, CAS President Radomír Pánek stated that “obtaining the Doctor of Sciences title primarily confirms that its holders have brought entirely new and original findings to their fields, enriching global scientific knowledge as well as our national cultural and scientific heritage.”
Dr. Aleš Cieplý focuses on the interactions and structure of hadrons, baryon resonances, hypernuclei, and exotic atoms. He has contributed to the development of hadron physics and earned recognition for results in the chiral description of nucleon interactions with kaons, antikaons, and eta mesons. He is the main author of the so-called Prague model, which explains the behavior of kaonic systems more effectively than competing theories.
