Jiří Hošek becomes third emeritus researcher at the Czech Academy of Sciences for the NPI

19. 03. 2024

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, theoretical physicist Jiří Hošek, DrSc., received a decree appointing him to the position of emeritus researcher at the Czech Academy of Sciences during a ceremony at the NPI headquarters in Řež. Dr. Hošek received the document from NPI director Ondřej Svoboda.

J. Hošek has been an emeritus researcher at ÚJF since January 19, 2024, when the letter of appointment was signed by Eva Zažímalová, President of the Czech Academy of Sciences. J. Hošek was awarded his new status for his "lifelong successful work and contributions to the development of the workplace and the scientific field."

"I am proud that the Nuclear Physics Institute now has three emeritus researchers of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Jiří Hošek has undoubtedly been one of our most outstanding researchers for many decades, and the title of emeritus researcher is a recognition of his lifelong efforts and contributions to the field of theoretical physics," said Ondřej Svoboda on the appointment.

J. Hošek is the author of a number of influential publications in various areas of theoretical physics. He has worked on the theory of neutrino masses and CP symmetry violation in the lepton sector, the description of color confinement using a dual London-type color superconductor, and the superconductivity of colored quarks in QCD. In recent years, he has been developing a theory of electroweak interactions with a composite Higgs boson.

Jiří Hošek headed the Department of Theoretical Physics at the NPI from 1998 to 2017, where he still works, now as an emeritus researcher. In addition to J. Hošek, the NPI has two other emeritus researchers from the Czech Academy of Sciences: Ing. Otokar Dragoun, DrSc. and doc. Ing. Vladimír Hnatowicz, DrSc.
