In March 2026, two special seminars will take place at the Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences to commemorate the long-standing work and professional contributions of our colleagues – Prof Jan Kučera, Prof Pavel Exner and Dr Miloslav Znojil.

Special seminar on the occasion of the anniversary of Prof Jan Kučera

The first seminar will take place on Tuesday, 10 March, at 10:30. The meeting will focus on the professional career of Prof Jan Kučera and the development of the AMS method at the NPI.

In his lecture entitled “53 years of scientific activities in Řež”, Prof. Kučera will look back on his work at the Institute and on the development of the field over more than five decades.

His talk will be followed by thematic presentations focusing on the history and current applications of the AMS method:

  • Prof Jan John, Associate Professor Mojmír Němec (FNSPE CTU): History of the establishment of the AMS laboratory and its current use
  • Dr Ivo Světlík (DRD NPI): Applications of AMS in radiocarbon dating
  • Dr Jan Kameník, Dr Roman Garba (DNIM NPI): Applications of AMS for the determination of ¹⁰Be and ²⁶Al

Special seminar on the occasion of the anniversary of Prof Pavel Exner and Dr Miloslav Znojil

The second seminar will take place on Monday, 30 March, at 10:00 in the NPI seminar room. Prof Pavel Exner and Dr Miloslav Znojil, together with Prof David Krejčiřík, a former student of Prof Exner now working at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of CTU, will give a lecture entitled “What Is and What Is Not Mathematical Physics”.

Both seminars provide an opportunity to recall the long-term work and scientific contributions of prominent members of our Institute while also opening a space for scholarly discussion across generations of researchers.
