Contamination

A sample shlould not experience secondary contamination by younger or older carbon.

Contaminantions such as root penetration or mould infestation can be removed from the sample. It is recommended to inform the laboratory about these details via the entry form. 

Samples from previous research stored in repositories can also undergo dating. However, the presence of preservatives poses a risk that could significantly impact the dating result. It is advisable to consult the analysis of such samples, as certain preservatives may be impossible to remove. Providing any information on sample preservation, such as the protocol used, the name of the reagent, or at least the time of preservation, will be advantageous.
