GANIL/SPIRAL2 and its Czech Republic contribution SPIRAL2-CZ is a user's facility that is available to the national and international scientific community. The access to the facility is open and it is based on excellence. It provides beams of stable and radioactive ions, for free, for different physics: from nuclear physics, to bio-physics, solid state physics, interdisciplinary physics and industrial applications. Several equipments and apparatus (different detectors, gamma spectrometer, magnetic spectrometer…) are available for the different experiments.

 

The access to the infrastructure is transparent following the rules.

  • In order to perform any experiment at GANIL, users must submit a written proposal that will be evaluated based on scientific merit by the GANIL Program Advisory Committee (PAC) that usually meets on an annual basis.
  • The experimental proposal form must be completed and submitted by the spokesperson(s) before the proposal deadline.
  • For every proposal, it is important that a GANIL contact person is identified and contacted as soon as possible.
  • The GANIL contact will help the users to estimate the tuning time required for the experiment, assist with any concerns or questions related to the technical aspects of reali-zing the experiment, and can advise on the most effective and efficient ways to setup and perform the experiment.
  • A "proposal for an experiment" form is available on GANIL/SPIRAL2 web site.
  • In addition to the proposal form, a full description of the experiment should be written and submitted for evaluation by the PAC.
  • This document must include the physics motivation, a full description of the experimental setup, the minimum beam intensity required and the number of UT's (1 UT = 8 hours) requested, and will provide an estimate of the expected count rates given the known or expected detection efficiencies.
  • For rate estimates, expected beam intensities can be obtained using the GANIL interactive chart of the nuclei on the web site.

The independent scientific committee procedure

The PAC meets approximately once per year to consider new proposals for nuclear physics experiments that can be scheduled during the coming year(s). During this open meeting, the PAC will hear brief oral presentations made by the spokesperson (or their representative) for each of the experimental proposals submitted before the PAC deadline. After all of the presentations, the PAC will meet in a closed session to rank the experiments and to give the list of those experiments that should be selected to receive beam time. Each spokesperson will be advised of the recommendation of the PAC through e-mail within a few days of the PAC meeting.

GANIL is an Infrastructure supported by the European Community through the ENSAR2 contract in the framework of H2020-INFRAIA-1-2014-2015, for the period from March 1st, 2016 to February 29th, 2020.
