All six ECAL detector sectors completed
20. 06. 2023
In June, the Czech team of the FAIR-CZ-OPII project completed the installation of all six sectors of the new electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) for the HADES experiment, part of the CBM pillar at the international FAIR laboratory, being built in Darmstadt.
Four sectors are already equipped with new three-inch photomultipliers, the other two, which were installed first, still have older 1.5" photomultipliers and will therefore be upgraded in the future. However, all six sectors are already fully functional and the entire ECAL will be used in the upcoming HADES experiment with scanning of the gold ion beam in March 2024.

ECAL is an in-kind contribution of the Czech Republic, as an associate member of FAIR, to the CBM pillar.
