Study of alternative technical solutions for the deep disposal of radioactive waste
The main objective of the project is to analyse the possibilities of alternative technical solutions for deep disposal of radioactive waste (RAW), technical solutions in EU countries and worldwide, their possible applicability in the Czech Republic with regard to the current Concept of Radioactive Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, to analyse new possibilities of in-situ measurements for site characterisation and the use of radionuclide monitoring for long-term control of the safety of RAW management and to assess the environmental impact of different alternative technical solutions for deep disposal of RAW.

AdvaDose – User-friendly monitoring device for mixed radiation fields
The main objective of the project is to develop an advanced detection device called AdvaDose, which will enable real-time detection of changes in the radiation field and spectral and directional characterization of individual particle components of this field. The device will be based on Timepix pixel detector technology and will complement existing dosimetry systems in medicine, industry, and transportation.
The Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences is responsible for several key tasks in the project: developing a measurement methodology in the aviation environment (as part of the AIRWATCH measurement system), validating outputs using Monte Carlo simulations, and integrating the AdvaDose detection unit into existing aviation dosimetry systems. The project is being implemented in a consortium with ADVACAM (lead coordinator) and the Czech Metrology Institute.
