Dalibor Skoupil’s student from the Department of Theoretical Physics succeeds at student conference

Supporting young talent is one of the key priorities of the Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. A great example is Denisa Trnková, a student at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, who has been collaborating with the Nuclear Physics Institute since her high school years. At the 16th Czech-Slovak Student Scientific Conference in Physics, held this year in Bratislava, she was awarded third place.

She received the award for her work entitled "Baryon Resonances in Kaon Photoproduction", carried out under the supervision of Mgr. Dalibor Skoupil, Ph.D., from the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Nuclear Physics Institute. Her achievement is particularly remarkable because she is an undergraduate student who presented her research in one of the conference's largest and most competitive sections.

Denisa Trnková's collaboration with the Nuclear Physics Institute began while she was still in high school, when she joined the Czech Secondary School Professional Activity (SOČ) programme under the supervision of Dalibor Skoupil. She has continued her research at the Institute alongside her studies at the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering.

Research on baryon resonances in kaon photoproduction helps reveal the internal structure of protons and neutrons and improves our understanding of the strong nuclear interaction, the fundamental force that holds atomic nuclei together.
