On October 31, 2018, the Industrial Property Office of the Czech Republic granted a patent to application entitled A method to determine the type of ionising radiation and a circuit for carrying out this method. The invention was published on December 12, 2018 in patent publication Věstník No. 50/2018.
Most miniaturized ionising radiation detectors today use a PIN diode plugged in the reverse direction with a high negative bias of tens to hundreds of volts. This involvement does not make it possible to distinguish between the kind of impacted ionising radiation and therefore its qualitative effects. Our invention makes it possible to distinguish ionising radiation produced by positive ions, such as alpha particles or protons, from photons (such as gamma photons) to allow for the construction of radiation dosimeters in mixed fields.
The owner of the patent is NPI CAS and its originators are three of our employees: Ing. Pavel Krist, Ph.D., Ing. Martin Kákona and Ing. Václav Štěpán, Ph.D.
